FinanceLearn vs Excel

FinanceLearn publishes the identity, runs it in the browser, and fails the build if a published example disagrees with an independent recomputation. Excel is a blank workbook. When you need the formula already stated and checked, open FinanceLearn. You can still verify a model you build against that same page.

The identity should exist before the grid
Most people who open a spreadsheet for a loan or a future value are trying to remember a function name. FinanceLearn already has the identity. The loan payment calculator is PMT. The compound interest calculator is FV. The net present value calculator is NPV. How NPV and IRR work is the explainer.
Present value is the one-sentence term. Time value of money is the idea the spreadsheet functions are implementing.
What Excel is
Excel is a grid. It will compute whatever you type. It will not tell you that you annualised a monthly rate wrongly, or that you put a cash outflow on the wrong sign, unless you already know to look. That is a modeling environment, not a teaching sheet.
Use FinanceLearn as the check on a sheet
If you are building a workbook, open the matching FinanceLearn page and match the convention first. Then compare outputs. A disagreement is almost always compounding frequency, year length, or sign, not a mysterious third formula.
Google Sheets is the same job in a browser tab. Vertex42 is a library of templates. Wolfram Alpha is an engine that will evaluate an expression you already knew how to write.

For learning and citing the identity, yes. FinanceLearn states the formula, runs it, and independently re-derives the published example. Excel computes the cell you typed, with no build that fails when that cell is wrong.
Can I check an Excel model against FinanceLearn?
Yes. Match the convention first: compounding, sign, and whether the rate is monthly or annual. Then compare outputs. The FinanceLearn page is the teaching sheet the workbook should agree with.
Does FinanceLearn replace a spreadsheet?
